Getting from Rhodes to Halki
The quickest way is the daily ferry from Kamiros Skala, a small port on the west coast of Rhodes about 50 km from Rhodes Town. The crossing takes roughly one hour. In summer there are usually one or two departures in the morning and return trips in the afternoon.
You can also reach Halki from Rhodes Town on the Dodecanese catamaran, which runs several times a week and takes about an hour. Schedules change seasonally, so check before you go.

What to see and do on Halki
The harbour village of Emporio is the heart of the island — colourful neoclassical houses reflected in the water, a clock tower, waterfront tavernas serving fresh fish and a few small shops. Walk along the harbour to the Church of Agios Nikolaos, the largest in the Dodecanese, with its impressive bell tower and pebble-mosaic courtyard.
Pondamos Beach is a ten-minute walk west of the harbour — a sandy cove with clear turquoise water, sun loungers and a small beach bar. For a quieter swim, follow the coastal path further to Kania Beach.
The ruined hilltop castle of the Knights of St John is a 30-minute uphill walk from Emporio, rewarding you with panoramic views over the island and across to Rhodes.
How much time do you need?
A day trip gives you roughly five to six hours on the island, which is plenty to explore Emporio, have a long seafood lunch and swim at Pondamos Beach. If you want to hike to the castle and visit the quieter beaches, consider an overnight stay — there are a handful of small guesthouses.
For a day trip, arrive on the first morning ferry and return on the last afternoon boat. Bring cash — there is one ATM on the island but it can run out in peak season.
