The Best Beaches in Rhodes

Turquoise water and rocks at a sheltered bay on the coast of Rhodes

Rhodes has two very different coastlines, and that is what makes its beaches so varied. The sheltered east coast is warm, calm and lined with sandy bays, ideal for swimming and families. The exposed west coast is breezier, wilder and beloved by windsurfers. In this guide we share our favourite beaches and how to reach each one comfortably.

East coast beaches

The east coast is where you will find the postcard bays. Anthony Quinn Bay is a small rocky cove with astonishingly clear water, perfect for snorkelling among the fish. A little further north, Tsambika stretches out as a long ribbon of golden sand backed by a green headland and its famous hilltop monastery.

Kolymbia offers a calmer, shingle-and-sand shoreline with tavernas and shade, while lively Faliraki has the island’s biggest organised beach, with sunbeds, watersports and everything within easy reach. Between them there is a bay to suit every mood.

Lindos and St Paul’s Bay

Beneath the acropolis of Lindos lie two beautiful bays. The main Lindos beach curves gently around the village harbour, with shallow, child-friendly water and views up to the ancient citadel.

Just around the headland, St Paul’s Bay is a near-enclosed circle of turquoise sea framed by rocks — one of the most photographed spots on the island and a wonderful place for a swim after exploring Lindos itself.

West coast and Prasonisi

The west coast has a wilder, more elemental feel. The breeze that keeps it cooler in summer also makes it a magnet for windsurfers and kitesurfers, especially at the island’s southern tip.

Prasonisi is the highlight: a sandy isthmus that joins a small islet to the main island, with flat water on one side and waves on the other. It is a long drive from the resorts, but the dramatic, open scenery makes it worth the journey for anyone chasing wind and space.

Getting around to the beaches

Many of the best beaches are spread along the coast, so a little planning helps. For east-coast bays like Faliraki, Kolymbia and Tsambika, a private transfer is the easiest way to arrive relaxed and on your own schedule, with no parking to worry about.

To reach coves best seen from the water, such as Anthony Quinn Bay, a boat cruise lets you swim straight off the deck. Tell us where you would like to go and Rodos Tours will arrange the transfer or cruise that fits your day.
